Purpose of the Program
To provide strategic leadership and management of the Legal Services and Legislative Services Directorates, ensuring effective drafting, interpretation, and implementation of education legislation and policies across South Africa.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Manage and oversee Legal Services and Legislative Services Directorates.
- Provide litigation supportfor Provincial Education Departments.
- Draft and monitor implementation of education legislation (Bills, Acts, Regulations).
- Offer legal adviceto the Department of Basic Education leadership.
- Manage court caseson behalf of the Minister and Director-General.
- Draft and negotiate national and international agreements.
- Ensure compliance with statutory bodies and provide legal interpretation services.
Minimum Requirements / Eligibility
- Relevant Bachelor of Law Degree (NQF Level 7)or equivalent qualification (SAQA-recognized).
- A Master’s Degree in Lawwill be an advantage.
- At least 10 years’ legal experience, with a minimum of 5 years at senior managerial level.
- Must be admitted as an Attorney or Advocate.
- Experience in Education Lawis a pre-requisite.
- Strong leadership, strategic management, communication, and policy formulation skills.
- Computer literacy (MS Office).
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel extensively.
- Completion of the SMS Pre-entry Programme Certificate(mandatory for appointment).
